Continuing Education Programmes

Together with other ETH organisations, the Einstein School offers continuing education programmes for professionals in the fields of public policy & technology, governance & administration, mediation and global cooperation.

Continuing Education Programme Technology and Public Policy (TPP)

This interdisciplinary continuing education programme is aimed at professionals who work at the interface between technology and public policy or who would like to do so in the future. It comprises two Certificates of Advanced Studies (CAS), which can also be taken individually, and a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS).

Taught by leading researchers and practitioners, the programme equips participants with policy analysis skills to operate successfully at the intersection of technology and politics and take the next step in their careers.

  • Focus: Policy analysis at the interface of technology and public policy
  • Target group: Professionals with a master's degree, ideally in a scientific or technical discipline, and with at least three years of professional experience
  • Format: On-campus study at the ETH Campus in Zurich
  • Duration: CAS: One semester; MAS: Four semesters, part-time study

Students at a class of the MAS Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development

MAS ETH Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development 

This interdisciplinary programme prepares the next generation of changemakers to address global inequalities and foster just societies. Combining scientific insights into global and local development challenges with practical, policy-related skills and hands-on experience to address them, the programme provides a comprehensive foundation for careers in global cooperation and/or sustainable development. It includes eight months of on-the-job-training with an international organisation around the world.

This programme is offered by NADEL – Global Cooperation and Sustainable Development at ETH Zurich

  • Focus: Global cooperation, sustainable development
  • Target group: Master’s graduates with a degree in natural sciences, engineering, economics, social sciences or humanities with a strong motivation for a career in global cooperation (within governments, NGOs, private sector or multi-lateral organizations). Graduates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience are also welcome to apply.
  • Format: One semester of full-time study at ETH Zurich, followed by eight months of on-the-job training at an international organisation anywhere in the world, and eight weeks of part-time workshops.
  • Duration: 1 semester full-time studies at ETH Zürich and 8 months on-the-job training, 8 weeks part-time studies
  • Language: English

MAS ETH Mediation in Peace Processes (MAS ETH MPP)

This continuing education programme provides participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and methods to mediate violent political conflicts. It is currently the only MAS programme that professionalises the training of mediators in peace processes.

The MAS ETH MPP is offered by the Centre for Security Studies at ETH Zurich.

  • Focus: Mediation for peace processes
  • Target group: Professionals who wish to professionalise their mediation practice. Key selection criteria are: existing university degrees, career prospects and professional experience in mediation, peace processes or political negotiations in violent conflicts.
  • Format: On-campus study at the ETH Campus in Zurich; participants return home between modules.
  • Duration: Four semesters, part-time study
  • Language: English

CAS ETH in Public Governance and Administration (CAS ETH PGA)

This interdisciplinary continuing education programme brings together professionals from around the world and teaches the skills needed to tackle complex governance challenges.

In addition to experts from research and practice, this programme offers scholarships for professionals from developing and emerging countries.

This programme is offered by the Swiss School of Public Governance, a research group at the MTEC Department.

  • Focus: Governance issues
  • Target group: Prospective managers and professionals from the public sector who deal with governance issues, with a master's degree and at least three years of professional experience
  • Format: Two-week block course on the ETH campus in Zurich, followed by three months for writing the CAS thesis
  • Duration: Two weeks of classes and three months for Thesis
  • Language: English
